LICHT LUFT SCHEISSE – "ÜBER NATUR" at the Botanical Museum Berlin
Licht Luft Scheisse was a twin exhibition and an event program, funded by the German Cultural Foundation and the Lotto Stiftung in occasion of the 2019 Bauhaus anniversary.
In the age of the Anthropocene, the concept of “nature” stands increasingly in opposition to the realization that we influence, alter, and destroy our environment in all spheres of animate and inanimate matter. Über Natur thematized this paradigm shift in the context of the Botanical Museum Berlin. The classical location for research and the dissemination of studies on biology, plants, and the history of science, primarily showcased the positions of contemporary artists as a contrasting complement. Since the exhibition rooms were slated for complete renovation, once all exhibition objects were removed, these offered the exhibiting artists and the exhibition architects the potential to make the display areas and furniture of the museum as part of their work, in this way either directly or indirectly dealing with the institution as a project of modernity.
