House Exer
Resting on the Hillside of the Rhine Valley, House Exer was build for a couple in 2012/2013.
The shape of the building follows the topography of the hill and sits on the slope like a caterpillar. The green roof reinforces the homogeneity with the landscape, while wooden shingles create the link to the traditional mountain huts.
The solid garage forms the foot of the slope. An external concrete stairway protected by a wooden filter leads you up along the facade to the sheltered entrance area. As you pass through a wooden door, an open two story kitchen and dinning space welcomes you home.
The windows towards the south facing terrace reach high and open up a scenic alpine view over the Rhine Valley. The staircase sits central crosswise to the slope, with a fireside bench marking the transit to a hidden library nestling up to the mountain rock. The wooden furniture railing of the staircase winds up the hovering living space like a sculpture, offers you smart storage solutions on your way up and finally forms into seating space. Up here, the galleria is functioning as a mediator between the open kitchen space downstairs and the intimate private area, with bathroom, sauna and dressing room. All along the windows frame the rough and cold ambience of the pictorial alpine mountain range outside, while the dominating wooden surfaces create a warm and cosy atmosphere. All materials are selectively chosen to be certified low in emission and the building integrated photovoltaic provides its users with more energy than needed.
