ASCENT FROM THE SEA - CAPRI - VILLA JOVIS - ITALY
The new system of ascent from the sea to the villa complex
In the workshop of the island of Capri within the gulf of the city of Naples, the project focused on giving an answer to the request for a structure of ascent from the sea, as access to the imperial Villa Jovis. On the promontory of the island, as a bulwark and end of the natural structure, among the great faraglioni, the villa stands out to find its position of dominance, but, for this reason, with difficult to access.
Through a vertical net design the lift allows the ascent from the sea to the structure. Taking advantage of the verticality that is reflected in the sea with a dimension that is not different in the form of a pier, it is possible to find the panoramic lift. There are two views, one towards the sea and one towards the rock, as a means of communication between the existing and the new composition.
Positioning exactly in the famous “Salto di Tibero”, point from which the emperor threw the dissidents into the water, the elevator wants to convert the jump and thus allow access to the upper horizontal promenade, with illustrations and information on the villa. From here it will be possible to directly access the structure.
Light steel structre and cladding in prefabricated colored concrete panels determine the final appearance of the lift structure and its insertion within the context.
