PALÁCIO DA JUSTIÇA
Lisbon’s Palace of Justice was part of a plan for a larger Justice Forum that was never completed.
The project adopted a modernist language in its urban volume and expression, together with the use of new materials employed in the construction.
The main building, Tribunais Cíveis [Civil Courts] develops for eight floors and consists of four parts joined by a reinforced concrete porch.
The main facades are regular and marked by a succession of distinct coatings. The facade of the atriums, instead, plays with an expressionist set of windows that creates a play of light on the inside.
Different materials and geometries are used in harmony in the interior spaces, where also all the furnishings are designed exclusively for this building.
The design also showcases diverse works of art, including the ceramic panels made by Querubim Lapa.
