Over The Line
Studio Cadena has completed “Over the Line”, a meandering translucent wall installation at the architecture fields of Art OMI in upstate New York
This installation takes on the most basic architectural element, the wall. A wall separates, it divides inside and out, your land and my land, this place and that – it’s the archetype and physical manifestation of the boundary between two places. Over the Line undermines this premise by proposing a wall that does not divide, sets no boundary, and creates no separation. While present, it remains a simple yet captivating background. This 140ft long translucent wall meanders on an open field with its undulating surface dramatically changing in the light urging visitors to weave and wander through the site.
The wall is bent and folded onto the land, and to allow for it to be traversed, multiple openings are cut along its length. It is a line that can be crossed. Made of translucent corrugated plastic, its surface is set aglow with the changing light throughout the day. It transforms from a flat surface in the distance to reveal its deep undulating form as visitors slowly approach the site on foot.
Over the Line will be on view for two years at Art OMI in Ghent, New York as part of series of interventions taking on the fundamental elements of architecture.
