The Rhine-Herne Canal is a canal built in 1914 in the Ruhr area, Germany. It connects the harbor in Duisburg on the Rhine with the Dortmund-Ems Canal near Henrichenburg following the valley of the Emscher.
The Ruhr region became the industrial center of Europe, connecting coal mining and heavy industry.
In the 1990s, the Emscher valley was transformed into a Landscape Park and the Rhine-Herne canal, which runs through it, tells its story.
