The images are from the Faroe Islands, an archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean some 320 km away from the nearest inhabited land. Remote, open, pristine. Being always exposed to harsh climate and wedged between slope and coastline, the architecture and settlement of the Faroe Islands evolved into something unique. Clusters of houses are placed very closely together along the coast, minimizing the heat loss and creating sheltered pockets of common space.
Tunnels and bridges came together with the Danish welfare system unifying the archipelago by ihard infrastructure rather than the waterways, connecting even the remotest population while also transforming the landscape.
