City Hall in Salteras
Two zones are established in the intervention:
A first that houses the uses of offices of political offices and a multipurpose room as a meeting point and dialogue between the people of the town and their political representatives. It is determined that the old rehabilitated house would be the most appropriate to house these uses and will be given a certain representative and noble character in terms of the materials applied in their finishes.
A second area, which will coincide with the newly built building and the second body of the old house that with its great height will characterize the lobby and reception. The new building is resolved as two trays in which there is a modulated structure of screens that define flexible spaces such as offices, meeting rooms and work areas.
One of the most important points of the intervention is perhaps the formalization of what is expected to be the main access and daily use through the central courtyard that will divide the two areas described and open the possibility of a single access for possible extensions and that the patio continues in the different plots down the street forming what today will be called an apple patio.
Following the idea of making the building perfectly accessible two lifts are available, one in the house to be rehabilitated that disembarks in the multipurpose room and the second in the new building.
The two patios, the one of the new access and the one of the bottom of the plot are connected by means of a succession of spaces of routes of character and very different heights. Attempts have been made to join this sequence by placing a floor of square pieces of granite equal to those used in the steels of the old town of Salteras that goes from the access patio to the back of the plot.
But to achieve this, in addition to the unity in the flooring, an element is used that making itself present in the façade gives the new building its uniqueness. It is a lattice of vertical pieces of steel that illuminate the offices and work areas in its two heights and formalizes the enclosure along the backyard, which will be assigned to a garden with vegetable treatment, making it visible from the street Christ of the Veracruz.
In the new access, in what was previously called the patio block is placed a kind of screen, something more like a piece of furniture than a built item, formalized by a sheet of aluminum 2 cm thick arranged so that They cover the views of the courtyard of the neighboring house. In this aluminum sheet, the cartography of the municipal district will be recorded. A fragment of the sheet is advanced to the facade to formalize access.
