Miaki Hall
“Miaki Hall” is made for the wood distribution company for the purpose of multi functional space such as a showroom as well as a meeting room, lecture room and gallery.
It resembles a square shape of traditional Japanese architecture called “Shoin-zukuri” as it is composed of the empty interior space by 12.6x4.2m and a broad corridor from where the mountains of Shikoku region can be viewed.
The broad corridor is supported by the cantilever slab as the architecture is located on the cliff.
The yellow cedar is adopted to the main structural material with its excellent durability.
Though a beam by 4.2m without columns is not difficult, I planned to join two diagonal beams by 150mm of cut section as Noborihari which is connected with curved ABS (angle bar) tension member as “Composite Beam Truss Structure”.
ABS (angle bar) that appears evenly on the ceiling as a rhythm of sealing material, regulates the order of the architecture.
I designed also the furniture such as benches and stools for the lecture event, and a large round table for the meeting. The stacked benches could be used as a large table.After lectures the space is simply used as a party space and tidied up with ease.I believe the architecture with just floor, roof and flexible furniture has the fundamental quality of Japanese architecture.
