1405DV House
Badalona Progres neighborhood is a city area strongly linked to the industrial city development in the early twentieth century. It is in this area where the city extended its growth through a very characteristic building typology. Deep single-family houses between 4 and 5 meters wide, two or three floors high and with a small courtyard inside the block commonly called in the city "badiu".
When we started with the commission, the building was ruinous, the roof was partially demolished and much of the slabs were affected by severe pathologies caused by the water entering through the damaged roof.
Our attitude towards projects leads us to interpret what we find with an eagerness to go further with a maximum respect attitude for what we found.
Thus, starting from the existing house elements and with the same constructive systems in the house we established the main strategies of the intervention.
We proceeded to use and repair the original construction elements in good condition as the main façade, part of the vertical structure, some of the floors and the roof support beams.
The new floors construction and the possibility of displacing them from their original position gave us the opportunity to build a central void that solved many of the requirements that both housing and its inhabitants demanded. It made possible a better illumination in the common spaces and darker parts of the house. Another requirement was solved allowing visual and spatial communication between all the rooms, improving the relationship between the inhabitants of the house.
At this point the rest of the project was faced with an attitude of maximum respect. Lightweight, natural and prefabricated building materials and systems were used.
Finally, the massive use of wood in both structure and finishes tried to establish a point of coherence with the traditional building systems that we find and are so common in the popular architecture of this area.
