Casa Alexius
The Alexius house is a villa built in the late 19th century with romantic features, charateristic of the balnear architectures that emerged in Monte-Estoril. The goal was to preserve its romantic characteristics.
The project recovers the residential function adapting it to contemporary conditions. The vertical distribution of functions is as followed:
Floor -1 - Space for 3 cars, technical spaces, extension of the kitchen, cellar and laundry and some living areas
Floor 0 - Social spaces, living and dining rooms, and kitchen
Floor 1 - The bedrooms that will be permanently inhabited, the master double bedroom with office and the children's single bedrooms.
Floor 2 - Studio / living room and two bedrooms.
This functional arrangement follows the nature of the house but requires some interventions:
- Reformulation of vertical communications: redesign of stairs and introduction of the lift
- Increasing the relationship with the garden by widening the porch and the outside stairs, linked to the new terrace above the garage.
- Equipping the house with a pool.
- Substitution of the south-east roof-window with a more generous opening to allow the view of the ocean and sunset
In the new intervention was used the dark concrete, black zinc, cement floors, gray limestone, rough wood beems and black stone in the swimming pool.
