SITE
The building is set in one of the plots of a housing block that presents a unique facade to the street that links the historic center of Setúbal to S. Filipe Castle and offers an extraordinary view towards the sea. This front of buildings from the 19th century has been distorted over the years by various new constructions and renovations.
BRIEF
Improve its residential living quality through the extension of two floors, gaining the river and mountain panorama view.
The existing façade was maintained to allow the continuity of this front row 19th century façades, preserving their identity.
PROPOSAL
In addition to the façade, the typology of a patio is also maintained, as the original model, which allows cross ventilation on the house and incoming light. The social living areas are located on the South side, benefiting from the view, while the kitchen and bathrooms are located North side, benefiting from the patio for light and natural ventilation. The bedrooms are located on the ground floor, higher than the street level for more privacy, the main living room and kitchen on the 1st floor and another living room/office space/suite on the 2nd floor uses a south facing terrace. The extension arises in the form of a balcony, above the existing façade, that projects its interior space to the landscape.
