The house is located in a 5-storey building in L’Eixample, Barcelona. The building dates from the late nineteenth century and in the 80s was totally converted into offices.
The project consisted in returning its original use and get to have a unique character.
What we found was an office where floors, ceilings, screens or finishes added in previous renovations did not allow to appreciate the charm and potential of the space. It had a typical structure of a royal house of this area of Barcelona with a long corridor, two courtyards, ceilings over 4m high, structural walls and slaps with ceramic cankerworm.
The first exercise was trying to remove all those elements added in the previous reforms, and later on it was decided to play between continent and content, where the continent consists in a white open space without partitions and the content, which is achieved by volumes arranged in either side of the central corridor, acts as a core.
These volumes with lower altitudes are centralized and contain wet and secondary spaces, leaving free the ends, bedroom and living room.
The reform, which has achieved a very personal ambience, has been manage to fulfill the wishes of his client, who wanted the flat to become his place of disconnection and relaxation.
