Studio duplex Paris 10
This 409 sq feet duplex with 100sq feet under 5.9 ft high is located on the first and top floor of a corner building in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
Before renovation work, the flat showed shoddy fitting work and bad quality materials. The space could not be maximized ( lack of storage). Natural light could hardly get to the back of the flat, especially to the shower room.
As the budget did not allow for full renovation, it was decided to make a multiplicity of small changes, recycling thus existing features.
- Let natural light come in the whole flat (building a fanlight so the light gets to the shower room, project of a skylight on the bedroom roof
- Integrate a study area in the living room
- use a mirror effect (to reflect more light through the rooms), and thin, light elements to make the flat feel larger
- fit more storage without overloading the space
- give more character to the whole flat by using quality material (marble, leather, solid oak, mosaic) and custom-designed furniture Wooden elements such as custom-made furniture, batten, used as baseboard, mirror frames, frames (fanlight, safety-rail, cupboards), handrail, furniture legs) as well as colour effects (light blue on the lower parts of the living room walls and light pink in the bathroom) make the flat feel warm and welcoming).
