The new building is a major expansion of the Peace Palace Library and the creation of new facilities for the Hague Academy of International Law.
Both activities are given their own individual identity within a balanced dynamic, architectural composition comprising of three formal elements- a triangular Reading Room, an elliptical Academy Hall and a linear building containing the foyer, offices and support spaces.
The expansion has its own unique personality but is respectful of the Palace in scale, material and colour.
The Academy Hall is a flexible room which accommodates various conference
layouts: A Seminar Room, translator booths and the Academy offices are situated on the first floor of the main building.
The Reading Room is the focus of the Library and forms a link to the Palace.
An elegant three-storey foyer connecting the Entrance, Library and Academy contains facilities for business and informal discussion.
Visual connections with upper levels encourage a sense of community
amongst users and visitors, sharing a common interest in international
peace and justice.
