CENTRALPIZZA PROVIDENCIA
A pizzeria in one of the busiest hubs of Santiago de Chile (Providencia Avenue) where industrial lines predominate, but also carries an antithetical feature – a cozy atmosphere. That was the order for Espacio6280 (www.6280.cl), a Studio of the Chilean architects Pablo Arellano and Patricio Lopetegui, who are the responsible parts for architecture, design and construction.
To accomplish so, two design axes were taken into account. On the one hand, the warmth of the space, considering the experience of sharing a pizza while being able to observe the production process through a completely visible kitchen, and on the other hand, the industrial appearance, turning the building materials, such as concrete and pipes, into coatings and finishes.
Thus, five instances were considered when eating a pizza. The first one is regarding families or small groups, where an intimate space is generated by having a low floor-to-ceiling height and the space is surrounded by a wood stained with yellow Osmo vegetable oils, keeping the vein visible and maintaining the amenity that delivers its texture. The second instance corresponds to the shared tables, with a bar of 90 centimeters, a different demarcation in the pavement and accompanied by a series of light bulbs of warm hanging light, which models a great lamp that invites different customers to share a common table. The third instance seeks to generate a convenient space with a large armchair unified to the wall and free tables that can be set according to the size of the group.
This chain is characterized not only by selling large pizzas but also by selling take-out food. That is why were designed a fourth and fifth instance. These two agree that both are bars to eat, but they differ in their utility. One overlooks the street and allows guests, who only want to eat a slice of pizza, to be welcome, while the other is visually connected to the inner part of the kitchen, allowing a more intimate experience where the customer is able to interact with the production as well as with the local workers.
For all the tables, the idea was to generate a steel structure, which would convey the feeling of lightness and transparency, but able to withstand a great solid and robust cover with demolition oak beams, which were polished, sanded and sealed with natural color waterproof Osmo.
Being located in one of the most important shopping streets of the city, the design strategy for the facade was fundamental to draw new customers. The lighting was designed differently for each space inside the place, while the bar that faces the street, gives visibility to the experience of enjoying a pizza.
In this way, the project seeks to attract customer, who are passing by and see the place just by a glance, with elements that contrast and stand out with both for their nobility and transformation.
