2 Houses In A Transformed Farm,civenna, Italy
The project deals with problems that are typical of the renovation of dismissed rural buildings and underlines a series of steps taken in the design process: an evaluation of the architectural value of the buildings previous to design; no unification among different buildings as differences are to be maintained and stratification underlined; a simple adding process of new to old as source of interesting contrasts.
As a matter of facts the complex, owned by two sisters, consisted in a 1800 stone built vaulted stable with upper floor barn, a 1930s, chalet-styled, stone-built farmer house, and a1970s bricks-built stable.
The two sisters divided the complex in two parts: one consisted in the older buildings, the other in the 1970s stable.
The design approach was different following the different characters of the two parts: a radical change in the 70s stables was suggested by the meanness of the building while a much more conservative attitude was inducted by the older and more valuable parts.
