Silos a debate
Proyecto Silos is conceived to generate a shift in consciousness towards the Industrial Heritage, as rehabilitation and revitalization of obsolete with strong character and potential in rural areas. We know the past and present of these buildings and we are concerned about the future. This uncertainty makes us move and act, but not in isolation, but with the participation and support of all.
Proyecto Silos is initiating several activities that employ an ephemeral and dynamic approach. Our goal is to raise awareness, attention and links around these buildings and their surrounding environment; in doing so we will check for their maintenance and reuse potential. Identity plays an important role in the education process. Patrimonial values and concepts extrapolate into social, local and geographic contexts. In this manner, participative processes are held, thus creating knowledge that encourages socio-cultural relations, cooperation, innovation and progress.
This seminar was materialized September 2014, mainly in Villanueva del Fresno (Badajoz, Spain). The aim of the Cross-Border Conferences about the Industrial Heritage was to raise awareness of the Silo construction, specially the case of Villanueva del Fresno. Lectures and workshops were held either in Spain and Portugal. Different experts from both countries worked around the scope of the industrial heritage in rural areas. Locals and people from different regions and professions got involved on this project, proposing possible uses for the Silo. The result was an enormous catalogue of possible uses for the silo of Villanueva del Fresno.
