Centre of Cultural Cinematographic Broadcasting
Cities are a reflection of the society that inhabits them. Overtime, the unceasing movementwithin the buildings causes them to change and adapt to new needs and functions that they were not designed for. Restoring the architecture consists of improving its use, and adapting and transforming buildings according to present needs. This takes advantage of features and potential of the elements without incurring a loss of identity, thus maintaining or improving relations with the surrounding environment. Context.
The project proposes to convert the old Factory of Industrial Textiles in Valladolid into a Centre of Cultural Cinematographic Broadcasting, Film Commission and headquarters of Seminci. An ambitious program, it is an intervention that is not just based on the importance of the architectonical heritage nor the legal protection of its facades. This project delves deeper, it seeks to enhance and restore the character and industrial identity to the pre-existence. It is an operation based on the reflection of the role of cinema in the city, the perception of place and strategies of understanding the site. The new building will maintain pre-existing elements of old whilst incorporating contemporary ideas, thus creating a plotline of sequential and coherent dialogue between the past and the present.
The planned rehabilitation will respect as much as possible the pre-existing construction of the building whilst also creating a new and distinctive identity. It is an operation of juxtaposition and subversion, which restores the building´s lost identity and intensifies its original sense of space in a new construction. This new architectural and urban environment will tap into the power of human emotion through its innovate use as a site of cinematography. In fusing the industrial past with the technology of the present, the building will represent a beacon of time-transcending synergy, its light will shine bright andskyward above the surrounding structures of old. However, at the root of all the buildings remains a connection of perfect stability, balance, alliance and punctuality.
