The Octogone multimedia library
Multimedia library with the rehab of an old octagonal building and the conservation of a little wood
Through our attentive and respectful approach, the project preserves and reveals the wealth of the Bois de Pourailly site while developing simple and legible interior spaces.
In order to serve the reading places, the antenna of the Conservatory and the outdoor public spaces, new panoramas are created, such as the view of the park, the willows, the Calais Canal. All the existing elements are used to provide a place conducive to reading, imagination, concentration, among other things.
The multimedia library is implanted on stilts, in the footsteps of an old building, with a fairly high baseline level. From the street, the access to the multimedia library is done by a wooden path becoming a belvedere connected to the park.
Two entities are clearly discernible. Both of them differ and complement each other. The first one, located on the North side, houses partitioned and semi-partitioned spaces. It is an opaque volume, opening whenever someone needs the reading room. On the other side, the second, adjoining the Octogone, is transparent and open to the landscape. It is dedicated to consultation and reading. By its size, it displays different moods and different lights. It can vary from the atmosphere of the woods on the North side, to a staging of the Octogone, and finally to a frame of Coulogne and its canal on the South side.
Near the lounge area, an accessible terrace extends the documentary space to the South. The terrace helps regulating the sunlight through sliding panels. It is the perfect place to enjoy the silence of the park.
