Apartment B
In a turn of the century Berlin-Charlottenburg apartment, resides and works an art collector. It is a fragment of a once grand bourgeois apartment at the cultural heart of Berlin.
Corridors adorned in books entice, turning and leading you into a wonderful array of chambers that follow. Mirrors play and exaggerate the sense of perspective, where for a moment, you are taken back to the building’s original grandeur and spaciousness.
The apartment is the setting for a contemporary art collection and furniture of the 20th century. Soft clear tones sit quietly against the vibrant bursts of colours. The collection and its presentation are constantly changing and provide space for private receptions.
Whilst the main rooms are restrained in order to bring the art into focus, the lavish private side rooms find their opulence through materiality and design.
Extravagant materials such as Persian travertine and bronze were used here. Recessed wall lights create a warm glow in a cedar cabinet. Rounded stone bars surround a shower room fit for a Roman bath.
The former representative nature of the apartment has been re-established once again by this full restoration. Walls were removed and created large spaces, functions exchanged and repurposed for new uses.
