The Playfulness of the Real
Chicago Architecture Biennial 2015: as part of the "State of the Art of Architecture", Point Supreme exhibit couples of the most extreme opposite parts of their work; urban proposals for Athens and photographs of their realized buildings.
There are no preconceptions of scale or design disciplines in the architecture of Point Supreme; buildings are furniture and mountains are objects, making no difference between rooms and cities, interiors and exteriors, private and public space. The city becomes a systematically exploited experimental field; varying from radical to immediately realizable, all the projects are interrelated and form a series.
"Whatever the size or type of commission, ideas for the improvement of life in the city repeat combine and resurface in ways that even we ourselves are very surprised to discover".
For example the concrete wall of the Petralona House resembles a city where different programs and infrastructures such as a water hose, the electricity box, plugs, lights, tiles, alcoves establish relationships and a geography similar to the one that streets, the sea, mountains and landmark buildings create in a city.’
The kitchen table in Nadja is like Faliro Pier, where an archetypical construction establishes a center in the sea with strong graphic character and language so as to inspire excitement and intensive use from the members of the family (or city).
The Flowershop and Athens Heaven, although made in very different moments, of extremely different scale, one radical and one built embody the same principle; nature acquires the leading role that it deserves while city (or furniture) becomes a background or a pedestal for it. So the existing condition is reversed and nature is treated as an icon.
The first floor of Nadja is like Athens By Hills, a continuous surface where programs float like islands establishing relationships and creating intersecting view frames.
The dualities showcase the similarity in treatment between realized and urban projects.
