Creating a space, a small pavilion with just one piece, like in the Lego games – a great way to learn about composition and the rules of the game – but using a quite exceptional brick, light, playful and floating: an inflatable lifesaver. From furniture to the walls and the ceiling (but will be there still furniture, ceiling and walls?) the students will built very quickly an architecture that could completely transform a space, and/or a device for temporary appropriation of space to be carried, being extremely lightweight, around in the university, or city.
The lifesavers, linked together with stripes of transparent pvc, can potentially acquire any configuration and shape, and can be, once linked together, modeled very easily to create a self standing structure like a dome or suspended to existing structures. The structure can also be designed for a more performative experience, and acquire during the day different shapes and uses. In addition to its extraordinary building potentials, the lifesaver acts also as a playful device, stimulating surprise and interaction.
Play in this workshop will be experienced thus at various levels: in the design phase, with our round and lightweight bricks, during the installation's life, moving, transforming and adapting the installation, all by/in a colourful and bizarre architecture.
