Our aim entering the competition was to work on the residual spaces of our city, Rome, to try to rethink these spaces and to come up with solutions that would trasform these residual spaces in thriving and liveable spaces.
That's why we decided to work on the residual space generated by the infrastructures, in this case the residual space under big motorways passing trough the city, and more specifically the space under the Francia Avenue viaduct in Rome.
We choosed this case in particular because of its pecualiar location in the middle of the olympic neighborood and next to the New Auditorium of Rome designed by Renzo Piano, the Nervi's sport pavillion and the Maxxi Museum of Zaha Hadid.
The goal was to come up with ideas of different uses that could take advantage of the "protection " given by the motorway that would become a "roof" for many outdoors activities for the surroundings.
The potential for this place is to become a long"promenade" with different uses like: cafes, restaurants, open air cinemas, temporary esposition spaces, temporary market, sport and leuisure activities.
Always with an eye on sustainability and cheapness all the ideas are designed to be made with recycled materials( pallets, containers) and easy to assembly, in order to allow the very inhabitants to build them.
