Perm Museum Xxi
The new museum building enlarges in every floor. The form follows the stacking of different functions in mixed sizes of floors. This pragmatic idea transforms the building into an idiosyncratic appearance, it represents the expression of a cultic place. It's size makes it readable as a landmark in the urban and suburban context.
The whole construction, facade, slabs and walls are made of white in situ concrete.
The central nucleus contains different elevators, two emergency staircases, ducts for infrastructure and service spaces.
The main lobby of the entire building is located in the entrance floor. From here one can take the escalator to the museums foyer or a staircase to the auditorium in the underground or to the education center and library in the first floor above ground. Inside the museum area a winding stair connects all floors.
All slabs are planed as ribbed slabs with infrastructure between the ribs.
The central nucleus of 12 x 12 m manages the horizontal and vertical forces. Two walls traversing the nucleus function as a structural system of cantilever beam and trussed girder of the facade. This option allows rooms free of pillars.
