Destiny Church
In counterpoint to the highly figured stone facades of the 19th century church a newly defined character and identity was created for an existing annex. Existing exterior windows and utilitarian blockwork were wrapped in flush detailed and black-coated cement panels to create of a mute and uniform black lining. The addition of this protective rainscreen layer provided environmental benefits and guaranteed the sustained longevity of the existing structure. In urban terms the new exterior expression redefines the building as a civic landmark, quietly articulating it's community and civic status within the high street setting.
A wide portal opens directly onto the street, creating a strongly defined entrance to the church and allowing for a seamless transition between the city and the interior world of the church.
