Little Hilltop with Wind View
This project was a request from a wind power company to build a tower that could look over “a view with a windmill” on the hill of a wind-farm in Shimonoseki city, Yamaguchi prefecture. But we found a panoramic view of windmills on our first visit at the site.
We, therefore, decided to plan a “wind” that brings the windmills, grass, flowers, sky, clouds, and all other elements that create the place together, rather than to build something only for looking over the scenery. We made a planting that sways in the wind, and designed a “flowing architecture” beside that distorts its shape by the wind force.
The grass and flowers flutter in the wind, the clouds flow, and the big windmill revolves by the wind. These things happen so naturally that we may not even notice. The movement of the construction should not stand out when it sways in the wind. We aimed and planned for the “strangeness that does not feel out of place” that makes the people aware when they realize the subtle movement.
