GOMES AND CRISTINO HOUSE
The houses are located in a new residential growing area of Vila Real with a site geometry defined by the regulations of the Urbanization Planning. The land’s morphology, the access conditions (through the only road at East), the light orientation and the great sight over the valley, have been the main elements to articulate the several areas. The variation of approximately 2 meters between the street quotas and that one of the inner garden, have suggested placing the pedestrian quota to a higher level. Three levels constitute the vertical interface with the service zone (garage, laundry, kitchen and dinner) to the lower level. Both living room and library are located in the intermediate plan to the pedestrian level, supported by a small suspended garden over the garage roofing and laundry room. The bedroom is at an upper level.
A white trapezoidal volume supported by stone walls delimits the inner patio, garden and entry to the garage defining pure geometric surfaces that emerge from the ground. Both northern and southern facades have small breaches, different from a dimensional and figurative level point of view, emphasizing the volumetric plainness.
The western façade inclined over the valley, uses the window’s maximum width on two levels, in order to establish a privileged relationship between interior and landscape.
The interior spaces are positioned around the stairs which in turn are emphasized by the great marbled walls. Also, the employ of wooden walls allows a diversified use of some strategic spaces in the house’s time management. Dark wood, marble and white walls are the finishing materials of all rooms. Granite stone, aluminum and white surfaces are the materials used outside.
